CMSP Cool Image of the Day

Clown face? No, its time to learn about insect gizzards.

Insect circulation.

Insects have an open circulatory system. Blood permeates the hemocoel (body cavity) rather than being confined to veins and arteries. Three cavities separated by diaphragms divide the body into distinct sinuses: the dorsal pericardial sinus containing the heart and aorta; the perivisceral sinus with the reproductive organs alimentary canal tracheae and adipose tissue; and the ventral perineural sinus through which the nerve cord runs.
