CMSP Cool Image of the Day Blog

An elderly man measures his own blood pressure (200/96, pulse 73/min) early in the morning (7:29 A.M.) using an Omron automatic monitor. His blood pressure fluctuates within days from -200/-100 down to -90/60.
Hypertension poses a risk of a heart attact and stroke, hypotension may lead to fainting. This fluctuation causes anxienty because it happens in spite of his adherence to medication.

Low blood pressure (hypotension) would seem to be something to strive for. However, for many people, low blood pressure can cause symptoms of dizziness and fainting. In severe cases, low blood pressure can be life-threatening.
