CMSP Cool Image of the Day Blog

A medical charity has reported that in 2001, it cost $0.67 to vaccinate children against tuberculosis, measles, diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough and polio.
In recent years, rubella, hepatitis B, Haemophilus influenzae type b, pneumococcal diseases, rotavirus and the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines have been added to vaccination programs bringing the cost to $45.59 per child.

Pictured in today's CMSP blog is a Rotavirus. Rotaviruses can cause severe diarrhea in children. Rotaviruses attack the lining of the small intestine. Vaccinating results in milder cases since there only seems to be one immunologic group. The duodenum is the most common part of the gastrointestinal tract infected.
